Sleeping Problems?

Do you wake frequently during the night? Do you have trouble falling back to sleep? Do you snore? Does your snoring bother others? If so, then you may have a sleep disorder.

At least 40 million Americans suffer from chronic, long-term sleep disorders each year while 20 million experience occasional sleeping problems. These disorders and the resulting sleep deprivation interfere with work, driving and social activities.

Sleep is one of life's basic necessities. It is just as important to your health and well-being as food and water. Sleep patterns can affect overall health, as well as daily mood, behavior and performance. Too little sleep will leave you drowsy and unable to concentrate the next day, but also can lead to impaired memory and physical performance and eventually serious health problems.

Florida Hospital DeLand's Sleep Disorders Center adheres to the guidelines of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and is supervised by a physician who is board certified in sleep disorders.

The Sleep Disorders Center features sophisticated technology to monitor breathing patterns, oxygen level, heart rate and body movement. Before our patients are ready to sleep, a member of our staff will apply electrodes to their head, face, arms and legs to monitor movement as they sleep.

While patients are being monitored in the hospital setting, the hospitals newly renovated rooms are comfortable environments which are comparable to hotel accommodations.

Common Sleep Disorders

Sleep studies are used to help identify if you are suffering from a sleep disorder. Five of the sleep disorders commonly treated at the Sleep Disorders Center include:

  • Sleep Apnea
  • RLS/PLMS
  • Narcolepsy
  • Parasomnias
  • Insomnia

The Sleep Disorders Center of Florida Hospital DeLand accepts both self-referrals and physician referrals. Upon contacting the center, you will be asked to complete a sleep questionnaire and make an appointment with the sleep specialist physician.
