breastfeed a few days, have babies with special needs, or are returning to work or school, educators can help you reach your goals. Mothers who choose not to breastfeed after discharge will be given instruction in formula feeding as recommended today by the American Academy of Pediatrics and community resources to keep mother and baby healthy. Parent educators will help you learn skills as a new parent with daily instruction while at the BirthCare Center, prepare you for taking baby home, and continue to be available after you are home.

VISITATION GUIDELINES at THE BIRTHCARE CENTER
The early days after delivery are private and a special time that can never be recaptured. Each family is different and will make memories in their own way. Some families desire only a few close friends to visit and others have a large extended family to include. It is helpful to let friends and family know a visitation plan before delivery. Remember that the situation may be change from what was planned during pregnancy, such as situations leading to a cesarean delivery. The hospital stay is short and many visitors choose to wait
and visit at home to allow the mother and baby time to recover in privacy. Please call before you visit!!

Each day, we recommend all mothers rest after lunch for several hours. Visitors can help mothers recover more quickly by allowing them to have that rest period. In the evening, it is important to remember other patients may be resting. Children, other than siblings, should be limited due to possible illness.

If there are any special circumstances in your family, you can inform the nursing staff of your needs before delivery or at anytime during your stay. Mothers can request a limit to visitors during their stay at any time.

BREASTFEEDING 101

Thinking of how to feed your baby? The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages mothers to consider breastfeeding because of the benefits to baby,
mother, and family. The World Health Organization recommends a full two years, with introductions of solids and a cup at six months, as the healthiest
start for a new baby. Florida Hospital Deland parent educators can help you initiate breastfeeding, even if you choose to only breastfeed during your
hospital stay to "vaccinate" your baby with the important immunities only your milk can provide. We have a goal of keeping breastfeeding simple and comfortable.
This prenatal class will prepare you for the breastfeeding experience with information on supplies that are helpful or useless, the first feeding,
how to have a good start, and transitioning to home care. Special circumstances such as work or school are discussed to provide options for your family.
Partners are encouraged to attend as they are instrumental in the experience.

Classes are scheduled monthly, registration is required, call 386-943-4560
Fee $10, payable at class

PARENT EDUCATION AFTER YOUR BABY ARRIVES!

LACTATION CRISIS CONSULTATION-
BREASTFEEDING HELP IS A CALL AWAY!!
