The physical therapy department at Florida Hospital DeLand provides treatment for a variety of balance and dizziness-related disorders. We have physical therapists specially trained in vestibular rehabilitation.
Dizziness and other balance-related problems can be caused by a variety of factors. A medical checkup is always the first place to start. Some balance related problems that may be helped by rehabilitation include stroke, diabetic neuropathy, BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, a very treatable inner ear condition), and other vestibular/inner ear disorders.
Studies have shown that patients with loss of vestibular function who receive specialty balance rehabilitation improve more than those placed on a general conditioning exercise program or no program at all.
