Florida Hospital DeLand Adds Second CT Scanner to Increase Access to Care
1/17/2008

DELAND, FLORIDA, January 17, 2008 – Florida Hospital DeLand enhances patient care by adding another 16-slice Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner to its Radiology department. The $960,000 installation of the scanner is now complete after two months of renovations to the area.  "The addition of this second 16-slice CT scanner allows scheduling flexibility to better serve our patients, physicians and community needs," said Florida Hospital DeLand Radiology Director Wesley Harden. "It compliments and extends our existing diagnostic services so that we can see twice as many patients as before." In addition, the hospital began offering additional appointments during the evening hours to allow even greater flexibility to those needing diagnostic imaging tests. MRI and CT hours have been extended until 8:00 p.m. during the week. On Sundays, outpatient MRIs are available from 8:15 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and outpatient CTs are available from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

What is a CT Scan?
CT scans combine the power of X-ray technology and computers - allowing physicians the ability to view cross-sections of internal anatomy. The GE LightSpeed® 16-slice CT scanner offers patients a faster, more comfortable experience, while providing physicians with state-of-the-art diagnostic images.

The new CT system produces exceptional image quality for physicians and allows patients to spend less time having their CT procedure. Within seconds, the 16-slice CT scanner can capture multiple, wafer-thin, high-resolution images of a patient's anatomy, including the spine, head, abdomen and chest to help physicians better diagnose malignancies.

“Florida Hospital DeLand is committed to bringing advanced technology to our community,” said Radiology Director Wesley Harden. “Our physicians and patients expect innovative technology for procedures and our hospital now has increased the capability to benefit the community by providing additional, convenient appointments.”
