DELAND, FLORIDA, January 29, 2008 - Florida Hospital DeLand has partnered with Learning for Life to provide a worksite-based Exploring Post that allows students to learn from a different hospital department each month, receive hands on experience and become certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The Exploring Post began on October 16, 2007 and will continue through May 2008. The post was designed to assist students in making career decisions based on what they learn during the program.
Cady Group is a current participant of the Exploring Post. She is hoping to walk away from the program with the tools to make decisions about her future career in the medical field.
Cady Group is a DeLand High School freshman that loves horses and hopes to practice large animal veterinarian medicine at rodeos in the future.
“I want to be a veterinarian because I like working with large animals and don’t want to work a normal eight to five schedule. This Exploring Post is giving me the opportunity to find out more about medicine and the vast array of surgical procedures available,” said Cady.
“This program gives Florida Hospital DeLand the opportunity to reach out to students within the community and help them learn more about different medical careers through a “hands on” approach. This program will help students make an informed decision about whether a career in healthcare is right for them,” stated Florida Hospital DeLand Employment Manager Stefanie Audet.
Exploring is part of Learning for Life's career education program is for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. The programs are based on five areas of emphasis: career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, and leadership experience.
